In an era in which Republicans and Democrats find little common ground, TikTok is the rare exception— at least in the halls of Congress. Lawmakers are putting forth several bills aimed at limiting the power of the Chinese social media platform, by far the most popular in the US. With a White House ban on the table, TikTok's leadership is considering separating the company from its parent, China-based ByteDance. But across America, limiting TikTok may be too unpopular for Washington to pull the trigger.

The International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Russian leader Vladimir Putin for war crimes related to the alleged abduction of children from Ukraine. Though predictably decried by the Kremlin, the call for the arrest of a head of state, let alone a permanent member of the UN Security Council and a nuclear superpower, resonated all over the world. It could also be the beginning of a series of charges against Putin, his adjutants and Russian forces over waging the war on Ukraine, as well as allegations of mass executions, torture and the targeting of residential homes and infrastructure.

In the span of a week three regional banks (Silvergate, Silicon Valley, Signature) went down for the count. A fourth midsize lender, First Republic, was looking like it might join them, its shares having plummeted in the aftermath of SVB' simplosion. On Thursday, Wall Street rode to First Republic's rescue as the biggest US banks deposited $30 billion to tide it over. Among them, JPMorgan, Bank of America, Citigroup and Wells Fargo willeach contribute $5 billion, while Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley will kick in $2.5 billion. Oneanalyst proclaimed, that with the rescue of First Republic, "the banking crisis is over."
